I just finished my last read (and 104th book overall) of 2023 and have decided to get a headstart on my resolution to blog more individual book reviews.
The honor of the final book of the year goes to . . .

I foolishly went into this read letting comments from other reviewers cloud my judgment.
Yes, the plot is a bit convoluted (involving multiple generations and a lost gelato recipe) and yes, it involves one of my least favorite tropes - secret keeping (and in this case the keeping of many secrets).
However, I should have realized that the magic of Josie Silver's writing would not fail me. Her prose is lyrical, her characters are multi-dimensional and make you want to cheer for them despite their flaws.
While One Night on the Island will remain one of my absolute favorite books, and One Day in December is pure magic, this one, with a 4.5 star rating was still the perfect book to end 2023 on. (Spoiler alert - looking ahead, I will not be continuing on the trajectory of +4 star reads at the start of 2024 if the book I just started is any indication.)
As always, Josie Silver remains on my 'Must Read Authors' list and I look forward to seeing what's next in store from her.
Happy New Year,
C.J.
