The Drought is Over!!!

Gonna keep this one short and sweet so I can get back to reading . . .

Six books may not be a lot for me, but it's not about the quantity . . . the passion for reading has returned. It's Oct. 2 and I've already finished one book for the month and I'm halfway through two others.

So, what happened? What caused the drought in the first place, and what triggered its end? If I could pinpoint one thing, I would say it's reading choice. Or more specifically, influence . . . One of my New Year's Resolutions was to read at least one indie-published book a month. To that end, I began to rely on a number of Book Influencers, and, like quicksand, was quickly submerged. I was reading nothing but independently published authors. Don't get me wrong, I found that I absolutely love (Elsie Silver, Jewel E. Ann, and Melanie Harlow to name a few). However, my DNF rate has definitely been higher this year and I think this was one of the things that triggered my lack of enthusiasm for reading this summer.

As you can see from this month's graphic, there's an equal balance between traditional/indie published titles, and there's a little bit of everything here. Want angst? Eleanor and Grey and Unforgettable are chock full of it. Humor? Codename Charming and Love Theoretically are my recs. Need a little Spice? The Wallflower Wager and Accidentally Ours serve it up . . .

That's it. Those are my reviews for the month of September. Now, before you ask, I've not totally given up on being influenced. According to social media, everyone and there brother is addicted to Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing, so I had to give it a try. A new adult romantasy??? Ugh . . . I started listening to it on audio . . . and was immediately hooked, listening to five straight hours the first day. But more on that (and probably a whine because I have to wait until November for book two) in a future post.

Cheers,

C.J.
