February 2024 Reads & March TBR

Despite being only twenty-nine days long, February felt interminably long . . . Everything seemed to be going in slow motion. Especially where reading was concerned. Which is why when I got to the end of the month, I was surprised to have only finished six books.

It's clear to see where the problem lies . . . I got pulled into Feyre and Rhys' world and I'm not regretting it one bit. It's been difficult to resist jumping right into book three of the series, but I'm determined to spread it out. 2024 will officially be the year of Sarah J. Maas!

That being said, nothing disappointed this month. Of the three romances, You with a View by Jessica Joyce was my favorite. Jenny Holiday has joined the ranks of my must-read authors, and I will definitely be continuing Laura Pavlov's Cottonwood Cove series.

That being said, let's look ahead to March's TBR choices

One of last year's goals was to 'read more mysteries.' It failed miserably, so I broadened it to read a non-romance each month. I think (hope) I've found a niche in the fantasy genre. I know I enjoyed Freya Marsk in January and Sarah J. Maas because they cross over into the Romantasy sub-genre. We'll see how I feel about Olivie Blake. I hear good things . . .

I'm already nearly finished with The Break-Up Tour. I'm going to leave it there. Let's just say, I loved The Roughest Draft. It was my favorite book of 2022, and I'm constantly recommending it to people who say Emily Henry is the best thing ever. While I will always consider Wibberley/Siegemund-Broka a must-read author pair. Nothing has lived up to that first book

I'm continuing to edge out of my contemporary romance comfort zone with Nero. While I don't think I'll ever be ready to jump into something like Haunting Adeline, this mafia romance is a small step into the darkness.

Speaking of darkness . . . I'm halfway through Butcher and Blackbird. I anticipated reading this book for so long that I feel I have to love it. I'm not. But I am enjoying it. Perhaps I need my dark romance to come with a side of witty humor.

On the work front, I've been pulling double duty - editing Avery's story while working on what has turned into a new book. Nibbles started as a short story, written solely for my satisfaction. It has since grown into so much more. I'm determined to finish one of them in March but with the warmer temperatures and my garden calling, who knows if that will happen.

Until next month,

C.J.
