2024 Reading Goals

cjroark

Ah, the start of a new year and a fresh goal sheet . . .

As stated in a previous blog, I didn't do too badly with the reading guidelines I set for 2023. I blatantly broke the 'don't read more than one book by the same author in a month' pretty early on (thanks to Melanie Harlow's Cloverleigh Farms series), and I could have done a better job at challenging myself to read more than fluffy romance. Therefore, I plan on mixing things up a bit this year.

Keeping in mind my recent reading slump, I plan on keeping 2024's challenge pretty simple. While I hope (fingers crossed) to read far more than three books in a given month, I'm setting a goal for three of them.

Goal #1 - One Indie/KU Published book - pretty simple here. I'm constantly taking advantage of the Stuff Your Kindle events (click here if you're unfamiliar with this wonderful opportunity). Thanks to it, I literally have hundreds of books in my library. I plan to scroll through and randomly pick one each month.

Goal #2 - One Traditionally Published book - At one point during 2023 I felt like I completely forgot about the existence of traditionally published romance. I'm big into supporting my local libraries and there was a time when I had zero books (both physical and digital) checked out . . . And I have FOUR different libraries I frequent! This has changed in recent months, and I want to make sure it continues.

Goal #3 - One Non-Romance book - I diversified my reading a bit in 2023, but I'm seeking to do so even more in the coming year. Mystery, Fantasy, and Non-Fiction are my top go-to's.

Additionally, in last year's resolution blog, I kind of poo-pooed the idea of reading challenges. While I'm not going to dive head-first into a bunch of them this year, some have intrigued me. I plan on keeping track of a few things like tropes and locations this year just for some additional fun.

I also hope to blog more. Not only reviews of individual books but thoughts on reading and writing in general. Perhaps even touch more upon my writing life (My 2024 writing goal list is three times longer than the reading one!)

I'd also like to engage more with those (few) of you who actually read these words. That being said, what are your 2024 reading goals? Any favorite reads I should add to my (ever-expanding) TBR list? Feel free to comment below!

Cheers,

CJ
